Broome time

I’ve been a bit tardy keeping up with my diary and there is so much to tell - the last few days in Sydney, the shock of the heat and humidity in Darwin, the journey through the Kimberley to Broome and the week I’ve spent in Broome. There’s too much to catch up on, so I’ll add the details later. For now, a quick overview …

Darwin was a very big change from the rain of Sydney. I arrived at about midnight and it was probably 25 degrees celcius and very humid. Hostel was a bit of a dive, but pretty friendly - just like Darwin itself. It’s hard to feel any great affection for a city of tin huts, but that’s what happens when a cyclone destroys your city in the 70s I guess!

The Kimberley has been the best thing about this trip so far. It’s an awesome place and even the other tourists don’t spoil the rugged charm of the place. I’ve been to so many beautiful places with a great bunch of people. Swimming in fantastic gorges carved from sandstone and fed by waterfalls was perhaps the best thing about it for me.

Lastly, I’ve been in Broome for a week. Again, it’s not the most architecturaly pleasing place - corrugated steel being the building material of choice. It’s packed with people getting a bit of winter sun as we’re still in the tropics here. The place is very busy, but maybe the best thing to do is just to relax at Cable Beach. Lovely white sand and deep blue sea.
