Dave Burke emailed to tell me that this technique worked for him, but
does not enable you to run the NSM installer. I haven't
actually installed a new version of NSM since upgrading to Edgy.
His suggestion is to install it onto a non-Edgy machine and
then copy the installation onto your Edgy machine.
Here’s the method I settled on:
Stop it fiddling with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL:
perl -i -p -e 's/(linux_LD_ASSUME_KERNEL_hack)=1/$1=0/' \
./nsm2006.1r2_ui_linux_x86.bin
Fix the NSM script so you can run it:
perl -i -p -e 's/(linux_LD_ASSUME_KERNEL_hack)=1/$1=0/' NSM
