A distinct lack of sleep

Created: 26 Aug 2003

I’m back in Portsmouth after a week sailing in France and the Channel Islands. I’m tired and absolutely do not want to start packing my belongings up to move house.

Iain and Catherine’s wedding, on the 16th August was a much anticipated moment. I really enjoyed the ceremony and even more so the dinner and party afterwards. It was great to see so many friends again after being abroad for several weeks. We stayed at the Old Bell Inn in Warminster, which laid on early morning beer barrel rolling to wake anyone who had been foolish enough to attempt sleep early on a Saturday morning (I slept deeply throughout ;-). Needless to say I had a shocking hangover on Sunday and didn’t attempt the drive home until about 2pm.

On arrival home, I tried to book a Monday morning fast ferry to Cherbourg. Alas, there were no seats available, so I had to catch the overnight boat and have a protracted and annoying train journey to Morlaix. this included a chance to spend two hours in Lison, a town that would not be unjustly served by a five minute tour. Next time I will remember how hideous it was and catch the ferry to St Malo or Roscff instead.

I arrived in Morlaix and met Helen and Mum, then walked down to the boat to join Dad. We had a pleasant few days of sailing, travelling to Trébeurden, Perros Guirec, St. Helier (where we acquired Gail), Carteret, Diélette, Cherbourg and then back across the Channel. The highlights were undoubtedly having dolphins accompany us along the south coast of Jersey and the meal in Cherbourg at L’Antidote.

Since then I have spent a very pleasant day with Sally and as a bonus, managed to work out that Dave’s PC issues were caused by the Blaster worm. Even better, I seem to have enhanced my technical reputation, whereas the credit should go to Goggle’s microsoft search. Last night we drank a coffee before bed and as a result of that and a nasty case of my verbal diorrhea, we didn’t sleep a great deal last night.

So, here I am, attempting to avoid beginning to pack my belongings up to move house. I’ve managed quite successfully so far …

Oh, and the damn Widowmaker videos can’t be played by a large majority of my Kimberley companions …
