Sally and I recently returned from a week relaxing in a beach resort in Dahab. We learned hardly any arabic, visited virtually nothing of cultural significance and had little interaction with local people. It feels wrong somehow.

However, the windsurfing was great, with exactly the right combination of wind strengths for our abilities: light winds earlier in the week for honing basic skills and some stronger winds later for my first planing session and first times in the harness. The teaching at Club Dahab is fantastic; the instructors teach clearly and help everyone out with individual coaching tips. They’re also phenomenally talented windsurfers.

The laid-back beach life and the chilled atmosphere at the beach and in the bar made those inter-sail breaks so much more pleasant. Sally and I had a wonderfully unique massage experience which lasted over three hours and involved various techniques that weren’t taught in our basic massage course. Sally’s enquiry as to whether nudity was acceptable seemed to be interpretated as a request for full nudity at all times; I’m just glad I didn’t ask! At one point we wondered if we were ever going to leave.

So many positive experiences and such wonderful sailing weather; I’ll be going back one day for sure and I’ll do more than just windsurf and chill.
