Rounding off the week

General crap about my week ..

On Tuesday I went to a BCS lecture on Location Based Services at Southampton Institute. Typically, I left later than intended and the train was late too. Pompey were playing Saints, so the train was full to bursting with Pompey fans. Even wearing a red coat, I made it to the Institute OK. The lecture was good, but poorly attended.

Saturday was LUG meet day, but I spent the morning feeling too ill to go. At first I thought it was hangover-related, but it felt like the beginnings of ‘flu. Took some Paracodol and Mum leant me her car so I could go anyway. Meeting was good, put some faces to names etc.

After the LUG meet, I went to see Sally, stopping off on the way to pick up more painkillers. I gave her a quick phone call to see if she needed anything and she asked for yoghurt (more on this later). After a couple of painkillers and an hour in bed I felt much better; after two or three glasses of wine I felt tip-top ;-) Sally had people round for dinner (there were 8 of us in all) and the yoghurt proved crucial to cool down the super-hot spicy aubergine casserole ;-) After everyone had gone I felt ill again and went to bed. Sally said she’d feed one load into the dishwasher and then come, but it was about 4am by the time she got into bed. She’d been nextdoor where the party was still going strong!

Monday was my last ever HCC IT Platform Services xmas lunch, which I was late for due to the buses and trains being generally awful. It was good food, my favourite being the risotto and cheesecake. The Slug and Lettice staff were helpful, friendly and effecient. Derek, Rob and I stayed behind to finish off the champagne, promising to meet the others in the Gaolhouse, but by the time we made it, everyone had gone. So, we made the best of a bad job and had a few more pints before heading to the office, where we found nearly everone gone. Oh well, I headed over to Sally’s and (after a hectic search for car keys) we rented “One Hour Photo”, which was OK. but mediocre.

Tuesday, I did an oil change on Sally’s Golf, then she gave me a lift to Alresford where she had a hair appointment and I wandered round the town a bit and wished I’d had a camera. Then we drove back, having a minor dispute about a cyclist’s lights en route and I got the train.

On the way home, I stopped off at Fareham and went for a beer with John, Sonn and Mat, which was cool and we are up to date with each others news now. Mat drove me home in his 2.3l Bora - it’s a nippy little beast.
