On Tuesday evening I had Radio 4 on and was barely listening, when something commanded my attention. I heard a man of roughly my age describing something that happened to him on a train, twelve years previously. It is the most compelling monologue I’ve heard on radio for some time. If you’re quick, you can catch it on Listen Again [*] before next Tuesday.
I had been listening to Abdullah Redpath tell his story on Jon Ronson On …, a programme that is bizarrely categorised as comedy on the Radio 4 website. Hardly comic material, I think.
[*] The BBC have prevented me linking directly to the realaudio file, by checking the HTTP Referer header and refusing to serve the file if it does not begin with http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/. So, you’re forced to use the frankly awful BBC Radio Player.
